Fly Fishing Only

How's your net?
Is it frayed?
Is it time for a new one?
Or is the frame in good shape but you tore the net bag last trip out?
Nets, Nets, Nets
Why use them?
Which one is right?

Nets are a
good thing.

I like to carry a landing net when I'm fishing. My net sees use for almost every fish I catch.  Yep, even the little ones.

Once you've hooked a fish the sooner that fish is released the better the chance that fish will survival.

To that end I net fish as early in the fight as I can. I know I often net "green" fish that would have fought longer.

I also know that I'll be able to release most of them without having to revive them. Usually releasing them by just lowering the lip of the net allowing them to swim out.

Weight is another factor in the "net selection" game.  Some other things to consider are the fabric used in the net bag, the size of the holes, the length of the handle and how to attach your net to your vest.

After you select your net there are more considerations like how to use it to quickly subdue your fish and release it.  Sounds like a lot of thinking to go through just to select a net doesn't it.  Well read on and I'll sort through some of it for you.
